One Super Huge Ironing Board

It’s done! My sweet hubby made me my super huge silk screening table / ironing board I’ve been dreaming about! I know most people wouldn’t have a use for such a large table but it could definitely be done on a much smaller scale too.

First, he took an old conference table from his office and added 2 sheets of plywood to the top to make it extra wide:

I covered the table in 2 layers of felt (Boo picked the purple color) stretching it tight all the way around.

An electric staple gun comes in very handy for attaching the felt from underneath:

After the felt was attached I stretched plain white muslin across the top and stapled it from underneath as well. That’s two full yards of owl fabric you see below….it looks really small on such big table!

I can change the white muslin every so often when it gets too covered in ink….but I love all the partial images left behind…..it becomes a “diary” of all my projects:

Most of my clothing is a “diary” too with all the paint and ink and glue I get all over myself everyday:

The table is so big that Boo can play with thousands of buttons on one side and I can sew and iron and silk screen on the other end and we don’t get in each other’s way:

With my new table it feels like Christmas already! We put up the Christmas decorations this weekend. I know it’s a little early, but I wanted to use it as a backdrop for my sister-in-laws Christmas card photo I took for them this weekend. Here’s Mr. Lil Blue Boo and Diesel enjoying their Saturday morning:

Speaking of Diesel…..last week he turned NINE years old!

My nephew turned four this weekend too….Boo and I made him this “FOUR” shirt for him to wear at his party.

I don't care what they say "bigger is better", well at least for a work table!

Diesel made me really laugh out loud. He is fabulous. The fact that he is NINE and so tiny is kind of hilarious and makes me happy. :)

In the "altered books" world, that fabric diary underlayment is like decorating gold. Can you imagine the cool quilt back or purse lining or funky skirt that could be made from that piece of linen?
