We were thrilled to have The Shine Project as featured sponsor this month! We love everything about the Shine Project. Especially the face behind it, Ashley. She is helping to make the world a better place through service and she’s here to motivate you to join in her efforts!
About The Shine Project:
The Shine Project was created to inspire people to go out of their comfort zone, do hard things, and bring light to others around them. This year, The Shine Project is going around the country to get communities involved in being the change. Today we’re in Dallas making blankets for the homeless with 200 supporters. To see when TSP is coming near you, click here.We believe that when we come together to accomplish good, miracles happen, and in return, our own lives change.
We also have a non-profit organization called The Shine Scholarship Project. We do community service projects with at-risk youth in the Phoenix area to teach them the leadership skills they need to succeed in life. We raise money to send them to college so they can contribute back to society. Our hearts have been changed by these sweet kids, and we sell SHINE products to benefit them. 100% of proceeds from SHINE bands go to the scholarship fund, as well as portions of shine necklaces and shirts. Shop here. You can read more about the kids here.
Yesterday we launched a brand new project called Pass it Forward. Here’s how it works:
Come on over to get more involved, and help us change the world. Go ahead, let the world see you shine.

I liked the Shine Project facebook page! Look forward to seeing what shows up on there!
We were selling rag dolls and a little girl really wanted one but they didnt bring any money so we gave her one for free

Liked Shine on FB, already like LBB on FB. At least once a month I try to pay for the order of the car behind me at Starbucks. I love seeing the look on their faces when they don’t have to pay.
I jeep clothes in my car and if I see someone with kids I hand them out to them. Everybody should do this . Why sell them in a garage sale if you are able to buy new ones for your own children . Hand them to s needy looking stranger . People are usually thrilled and you can see the of why would a stranger be helping me . Pass them on.
Sorry typos I hate typing on an iphone with autocorrect
Awhile ago the lady in front of me left her change (about $3) for me to apply to my grocery bill because I let her go ahead of me, she only had a few items and I had a full cart. I didn’t find out till she was gone but was so touched that I shed alittle tear when I got to my car. Such a small thing insprired me to open my heart and give more myself, I try to everytime an opportunity arrises.

LOVE the shine project AND Lil Blue Boo! Can’t wait to Pass it forward!!!!
Love Pass It Forward, we live in Makaha Valley on Oahu, a beautiful, country area on the west side of the island. There isn’t much tourism, so the income levels of the locals is quite low.
I make quilts and blankets for the little ones that are in the VA sponsored housing and shelters. Plus we carry $5 McD cards so that when we run into someone who needs a meal, we can hand one out. We don’t hand out cash as meth and alcohol is something we don’t want to enable.
For Lent this year, instead of giving up something, we’re doing something for someone in need. For each week we’re making a fresh sheet kit for an adult homeless person: pillow, pillowcase, twin flatsheet, canvas throw, drawstring bag.
Early on Easter Sunday morning we will put all the bags in our car, drive to the local beaches and pass them out to those in need.
I love pay it forward! Such a great idea. I need to get myself out there and do this!
It is so refreshing to be reminded of all the good that remains in this world. Sadly, too often our awareness is only raised to ‘news’ which is rarely ‘good’. Once ‘completed’ (although it would be awesome if it never ended) it would be worthy of compiling and sharing in art museums around the country, it truly is a work of art.
That’s such a great idea! I love it! Are there any Canadian groups?
I love it. What a phenomenal idea.
I LOVE Ashley and Ashley!!! They are such an inspiration to us, the world; and it is a wonderful tool to remind everyone humanity still exists…it makes a huge difference in everyday life for people. Go Ashley of the SP! Go Ashley of LBB!
This is an amazing idea! I believe that we should not only be greatful servants, but be graceful recipients. Those two things alone could turn our planet around

I love this idea, are you coming to the good old south. We are in Georgia. I would love to be involved if it came here. Love, love it!
Just this past Christmas season, my family and many families from my church participated in RACK (Random Acts of Christmas Kindness). My word. It was awesome. It definitely stretched me at times, especially when the recipients didn’t trust my kindness. You can read about it by starting here: http://tsjphotography.com/blog/rack-download-edition/
LOVE the shine project! Many folks are so fortunate to be born into a situation where their needs are met and they have all the God-given gifts they need to do whatever they want in life…it’s so important to remember that to those that are given more, more is expected…love to see the kind of intiative Ashly has taken to make the world a better place…warms my heart!
The Shine Project reminds me of a book I’m reading and can’t help but wonder if they’re linked… “Ask Me Why I Hurt” by Dr. Randy Christensen. Although this book is about Dr. Christensen traveling through Arizona to help homeless and at-risk children and youth medically, his book talks a lot about the other people/places/projects involved in helping these children and youth. This project is incredible!
Very cool project. Something I like to do -it’s a very small thing – is when a friend asks me to pick up something for her while I’m in town I won’t let her pay me for the item. Very small thing but it makes me smile to brighten their day. I also like to be able to take food to families who are going through a hardship. Makes their life a little easier to not have to think about food for one meal!j

My random act of kindness for was for a friend who I have never met. She was having complications with her pregnancy and really wanted a baby shower so I contacted all the businesses I was networked with and pulled a huge favour. Everyone sent me an item for a big baby shower parcel. I organized the massive parcel and had it sent… She recieved it and she still raves about how special it was and still is!! YAY…

love this. being a mom of two myself, I always look for moms that I can ‘help’ when I’m out and about. you know… those frazzled days when you feel like you just might lose it? love the ‘pay it forward’ idea…. giving up ‘selfishness’/'selfcenteredness’ for lent and trying to do something nice for some one in my life each day… love your neighbor as yourself, right? tonight our pastor said we should do this and made the point that we love ourselves A LOT… so we should love others an equal amount.

I LOVE this project! What a fabulous idea. My 11 year old daughter and I are always trying to do little random acts of kindness as we make our way through life. Buying someones coffee, paying for the car behind you in the drive thru, leaving fun notes or drawings in library books, or just saying a prayer for a stranger. I”m off to buy some Pass it Forward cards! Thanks for introducing me to an amazing project, and for the chance to win some awesome goodies!
I just adore this! How often do you get to see how much your acts of kindness can change someone’s day (or life!).
How wonderful. I can’t wait to get involved. I love the “Pay it Forward” idea instead of paying someone back or doing something for them in return. So fun.

When I was volunteering in Russia it used the temperatures used to be around 0F on some winter days. One evening when I wanted to return home from the soup kitchen I waited and waited for the bus, because I knew there still had to go one but the question was when. When it finally came after 1,5 hours I was almost crying because of the cold. One elderly lady in the bus notized my despair and offered me two candys to warm me up a bit from the inside and spoke some comforting words. No one I didn’t know had ever be kind to me in the streets of that city before. I was so moved and will never forget this. I think we should more be kind to others without any obligation.
Wow! I love what’s happening with the project. Would love to see it in the country we’re living in now (Portugal!). So glad you came to Texas too since that’s our homeland!

What a wonderful organization! I love the shirts and necklace! This past week we had people rally around us to pay some fees towards our latest adoption. Then an online acquaintance donated money for our grant applications. It was so kind of them and we feel so loved and cared for during this whole adoption journey! Let all our light shine on to others. Let’s change the world and make it a better place for every person in every part of the world!
this is one card to put in my wallet that I would have no regrets using; fantastic idea!
What a wonderful giveaway!
Sounds like a fun idea (The Shine Project) but I’d be the one to get the card that gets stuck somewhere and doesn’t get passed around. Reminds me of something I participated in once… I filled out an “all in a day” journal that I passed around to the next person on a list and it never made it back around to me. Got left under someone’s car seat for months. Maybe this project will be more successful.
I’d like to enter the giveaway.

We just finished celebrating “Kindness Week” here in Ottawa, Canada. As a family we handed out thank you notes to a few police officers, paid a lump sum at a coffee shop and then sat down and watched while people smiled when they received their order for free, dropped off a grocery store gift card for a friend who recently lost a job and sponsored a loan through Kiva. Starting at the age of 2, our kids have chosen a chairty every year for their birthday, instead of receiving birthday gifts they ask their guests to donate to a specific charity. Although they are only 4 and 6 years old we are teaching them to “shine” in their own way and always remember how fortunate we are
I love this project! Paying it forward really really works! I’ve seen so many Reece’s Rainbow (adoption ministry that finds homes for orphans with special needs) families bring a child home, and then turn around and advocate for another kid or another family! It’s really amazing. Paying it forward literally spans the globe.
I’m just always touched when you can track the distance of a small gesture.

I have always loved the idea of Pass it forward–since the movie.
2 years ago just before Christmas I was laid off from work. My husband was in school so we didn’t have a steady income. We were wondering how we were going to make do when the mail came. Some sweet person(s) sent us a $300 gift card to the local grocery store. We tried looking up the return address so we could thank them but it ended up being a bogus address. We can’t wait until he is done with school and we can afford to help out others!
i am now following the shine project. a great blog and she is just the cutest ever!!!!! ive done little things to help out, give rides to folks walking, dontate my time or money to church stuff, donated clothing to local resale shops that help the community. but in august im stepping out of my comfort zone and going on my first mission trip to haiti. i cant wait to see what work the lord is doing there. my girlfriend and i are learning haitian creole to abolish the language barrier. i will be pushing myself to learn more, be a better christian, and keep my eyes open to gods work ! im very excited!!!

I love “Shine Project”. I have 5 kids of my own, married to a teacher, am a substitute teacher, and a 8th grade girls Pathfinder Counselor. I am thinking that some “Pay it Forward” cards are in our future to help encourage these kids (and adults) to do more to randomly help those we come in contact with.
Ashley, I love when you post great things like this. I just signed up for the San Diego event. You will have to keep us posted if you can make it out there, I would love to meet you.

Last year was a huge year of change for my daughters and I; so much so, that I had a friend who wanted to give us a little extra something to smile about last holiday season. Knowing everything we’ve been through and that money had become incredibly tight they sent the girls and myself Christmas presents to simply just give us something to smile about. Their act of kindness meant the world to me because it came at a time in which I wasn’t sure Santa would be coming to our home. I hope to do the same for someone else someday when I can afford to do so. Something that my girls and I could afford to do, was we sent cheerful pictures to two children who just underwent treatment for cancer in hopes that our pictures brightened their day just a little bit.
I love doing little acts of kindness…I can just imagin the person smiling when you receive their gift:)

I just LOVE this project! I have payed it forward and received the blessings back too many times to count. But the BEST shine moment happened recently. Just days ago I was on a cruise. I was pushed into doing the talent show by a sweet couple who heard me sing @ karaoke and by the hubby too. I tried to weazel my way out several times. I was so afraid to get up on the stage in front of at least 1,000 people and sing, but mostly because of my weight. To make a long story short, I did it and decided to do my best and have fun. Many people complimented me but the one that stood out was from a young girl, maybe 10 who was also overweight. She said I sang her most favorite song ever and that she was so happy to see someone like me up on stage and not worrying about people making fun of me. She had no idea that it was my biggest fear, she just thought I had all the courage in the world. She made me realize I should never be afraid to be me! I wish I knew about this project before I left because if I knew her name and address, I’d send her a shine necklace! Everyone deserves to shine and everyone should give of themselves to help others shine!
What a beautiful and inspiring project. I’m looking forward to seeing where it all leads!
I love that idea!! I think I may have to get one of those cards and see what happens? <3

Love this! My husband and I are expecting our first baby, but money is very tight because he’s in school full time…. The help we’ve received has been amazing! Friends, family and people we barely know have literally emptied out their basements to help with whatever we’ll need!

I love the idea of “being the change you want to see.” I’m also reminded of the passage from Matthew: “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and be reminded of your father in heaven.” As a mother of 2 young girls, I’m trying to live in such a way that they see a different and better world is possible, even if it doesn’t look like the life that others around us are living. I want them to grow up with a heart for those around them – certainly those that are less fortunate in terms of what they have, but also those that are less fortunate in how they feel. I think that’s why I’m in love with your Random Acts of Kindness cards as well as your other Shine projects – you never know who might need to receive some love today. Thanks for all your work; I’m so excited to learn about this project!

Random act of kindness – I saw a new mom struggling leaving the grocery store with her baby and trying to figure out how she was going to get to her car in the pouring down rain with her infant in the carseat carrier and all her groceries. My kids are really well behaved so I told them to stay under the covered area and I walked the lady to her car with my umbrella and helped her get her baby & groceries in the car. I don’t know how kind that is, I think it’s just being human and helping someone in need. I saw the new mom scared look on her face with the situation and knew if it was me I would want someone to help me out.
I would love to get involved in TSP! I look forward to seeing what is going on at LBB everyday. I now have a new blog to follow, TSP. love
I am so excited about this! I recently had surgery for a non life threatening form of breast cancer. I am in a MOM’s group and they found out and created a meal chain for my family for 2 weeks. I was so touched by this act of kindness that I have been trying to pay it forward. Before I went into surgery I had a friend have knee surgery so I brought her family dinner. When talking to a friend one day she mentioned how she had to pay someone $15 dollars to pick up Gatorade for her when she was sick one time (her husband is out of town for work every week.) The next time I was at the store I picked up some jugs of Gatorade for her to keep in the pantry. I volunteer at my son’s school weekly and I am so impressed by the job that his teacher does that I offered to make dinner for her this week. My mom, who was also touched by the meal chain for my family, recently volunteered to help a co-worker who was recently diagnosed with cancer. My mom set up a play-date chain for the woman’s 5 year old daughter on weekends for the next couple of months.
I love the idea of passing it forward to strangers as well. I will try this at the grocery store or coffee shop this week. This project is a wonderful thing. Shine On and Choose Joy!
A total stranger bought my Coffee at Starbucks!

Love this idea that anyone can SHINE for someone else–with simplicity! The t-shirts are adorable & inspiring!
There have been so many random acts of kindness lately its hard to pick one. My children 10,and 7 learning about this in school and my middle child comes home from school one day and he cleans his brothers room and sisters toys (she is 2) without being told. My oldest son sees this and decides, he is going to help me do the dishes since his chores are now done and help pick up leaves in the yard. My husband seeing that a part of his job is now done, decides he would take the kids to go eat ice cream for being kind and expecting nothing in return. My reward was seeing them be nice to each other and my husband happily spending quality time with his children. In return, I fell in love with my husband all over. I am truly blessed.

The lady in front of me at the grocery store yesterday was flustered by her crying kids and not having the right coupons out in time. I was lucky enough to be alone at the grocery store (my kids were at home with daddy) so I handed her a $5 off her purchase coupon that I had planned on using. She almost started crying she was so happy. It totally made my day!

My husband and I always pick a family every year (from church, work, friends, etc.) to be our ‘Christmas Family’. We have never had much money ourselved, but we pick a family that we know might be struggling or might not be able to do much for each other or their kids and we set aside some money to just try to make/get something special for them. Christmas 2010 we had just moved half way across the country, didn’t know hardly anyone and we were barely getting by with just one income. We were disappointed that we wouldn’t be able to spoil a family for Christmas, and also that we wouldn’t be able to do anything for each other. A couple weeks before Christmas, I got a call from our receptionist at work that she had something for me. I stopped by to pick up an envelope with my name. Inside was a Christmas card that mentioned that they knew about our Christmas Family tradition, and this year, WE would be the Christmas family! Inside the card were two smaller envelops, one for me and one for my husband, with $150 in each and strict instructions to only spend it on each other! We still have no idea who it was from, but we will never forget it! It just makes it that much sweeter to be able to do the same for others, and we will continue our Christmas Family tradition for years to come!
What an awesome idea! Love it! Cant wait to do some fun things!

I love, love, love all that you’re doing through the Pass it Forward – The Shine Project. You never know the impact that a simple smile or gesture can make. You never know who is watching and being inspired or encouraged by your words or actions. We all have something to offer – our time, money, talents, gifts, words and so on. With all the negative that can be on the internet, I am thankful for positive examples like LBB and The Shine Project. Def. adding on FB etc too!
