At Boo’s school there is a painting of an American flag that has the following words written on it:
The photo is one I took on Instagram during a morning hike to the Palm Desert cross.
Here is the enormous piece that the students made that decorates one of the halls:
I love that.
I spent the last few days filming at Boo’s school….capturing the student life behind the walls:

I just enrolled Boo in 1st grade for next year at The Academy of PDCPC. She has been there since the age of two and I couldn’t imagine her anywhere else. She loves when Mr. LBB takes her early…..and loves to be the last one picked up. Now I enroll her in the after-school programs….she starts pottery next week with a local artisan.
I always share the things that I love on this site…..and so today I’m sharing Boo’s school since it’s such a big part of our life. I made the digital short to bring the school to life for those locally who might be looking for a good fit for their child. It’s faith-based but there are children of other religions there….and I love that it’s not exclusive. In Kindergarten this year Boo and her entire class learned all 50 states and capitals. It was pretty amazing. (Note: that meant that I had to learn them as well because I didn’t do so well the first time around in elementary school).
Visit The Academy of Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church here…..and if you happen to see any typos let me know…..those would be MY typos!
There’s an Open House Sunday, March 17, 2013, 12:00 to 1:00pm.

And many more posts and “Booisms” here.
The art piece by the students was inspired by a poem that was written on a wall in a concentration camp during WW2 by a Jewish prisoner:
“I believe in the sun even when it is not shining
And I believe in love, even when there’s no one there.
And I believe in God, even when he is silent.
I believe through any trial, there is always a way
But sometimes in this suffering and hopeless despair
My heart cries for shelter, to know someone’s there
But a voice rises within me, saying hold on my child, I’ll give you strength,
I’ll give you hope. Just stay a little while.
I believe in the sun even when it is not shining
And I believe in love even when there’s no one there
But I believe in God even when he is silent
I believe through any trial there is always a way.
May there someday be sunshine
May there someday be happiness
May there someday be love
May there someday be peace….”

As a teacher, it’s exciting to know about great schools doing great work. I LOVED watching this video (I think my favorite moments were the ones of kids walking…often with a skip in their step!) and I think I spied Boo in the last shot, holding the frame? Maybe? Beautiful work. And yay for educational resources in the shop!
I’ve read that before, and it’s just as beautiful today as it was then. You take it in and it just expands inside, doesn’t it? Thank you for sharing.
I love this! Pinned it!
I just watched a video at Boo Mama’s that had me in tears then I came and read this. Beautiful.
How did they teach them the states and capitals. My daddy and I always like to quiz each other on them. I think I was in fifth grade when I learned them all.
Them, them, them. Sorry.

Lovely video!
Really enjoyed the video…I am a Presbyterian lady who noticed the picture of Milton Hershey in the video and have atteneded the Presbyterian church in Hershey called Derry Presbyterian. They have wonderful children there also.
Also just watched Schindler’s List over the weekend so the words really touched my heart.
