Turn Children’s Artwork into Gifts

Handmade Holiday Gift Ideas: Turn Children's Artwork into meaningful handmade gifts with these ideas via lilblueboo.com #gifts #diy #tutorial

Looking for some special gift ideas for the holidays?  I’ve come up with a few ways to turn your child’s artwork into amazing gifts this year.  Boo has a new “how to draw cats” book that she’s so excited about. I asked her to draw me a cat that we could make into some handmade gifts:

So impressed by her cute little cat:

DIY Elastic Shoelaces

I bought this pair of shoes at a consignment sale for Boo last year and her shoelaces kept coming untied so often that I decided to replace the laces with elastic.  The colorful elastic below is just fold-over elastic (FOE) used for hairbands and other crafts:

Foldover Elastic comes in a wide array of colors:

How to Make Altered Thrift Store Pop Art

How to Make Altered Thrift Store Pop Art via lilblueboo.com

There’s nothing I love more than scooping up something that someone else doesn’t want anymore….and making it my own.  My friend was selling this HUGE dinosaur at her yard sale and I couldn’t resist.  I knew I’d either paint over it to reuse the canvas….or maybe change it up a bit.  Mr. LBB loved the dino but Boo thought it was too scary.  So I changed him up a bit to be more of a pop art dino!

Here’s the before:

As part of the Lil Journal Project: another technique to work on in your journal this week: doodling on photos!  A few of these techniques come from my friend Stephanie Corfee’s  book: Creative Doodling and Beyond. Like drawing interesting borders:

Try adding photos into your journal and embellishing the photos with borders….even if it’s just a few lines:

Packing Tape Image Transfers

How to make image transfers with packing tape via lilblueboo.com

I love image transfers.  It’s something I’m always using in my journals but there are so many other fun uses for them.  All you need to make a transfer is a photocopy of an image or words and packing tape.  You can also use printouts from a laser printer or magazine pages. Inkjets will not work because they are not heat based toner.  So take some photos to the copy machine or tear some pages out of your favorite magazine to get started.

Bohemian Princess Crown | a Free Printable

Bohemian Princess Crown Download by Stephanie Corfee via lilblueboo.com

If I had a little girl, I would just love to host a Bohemian Princess party. We’d do a nature walk, and turn our found treasures of leaves, twigs, rocks and feathers into an art project and deck ourselves out in costume jewels. We’d braid each others’ hair and tuck daisies behind our ears. And we’d eat wild berries and cream in big bowls! In that vein, i thought it would be fun to make a little paper crown printable for all of you and your princesses. Have a Boho Princess Party of your own! [Read more...]
