A Tour of the Crib (and 24 tips by Boo)

So I found these on my phone. Boo giving a tour of the house. I love her enthusiasm.

I wish she’d just given me some warning….I would have staged the house for her (or maybe just made the bed).

I came up with some tips based on her new found hobby of impersonating an MTV Cribs host…like the two below:

Re: the gun comment: hypothetically if we owned any guns, they would be under lock and key.

Re: the shoes: she has about 15 pairs, 6 that actually fit, NOT 50. Definitely NOT 60.

YouTube keeps giving me this warning below:

….really YouTube? You think it’s shaky?  Good luck stabilizing that…..

Kind of a Casting Video

This was kind of a disaster. I was asked by a production company to put together a casting video and it ended up being 98% outtakes because that’s all I could get. I kept stumbling over my name, anytime I started filming someone would talk in the background, then my camera battery kept dying.

This could be a scene from the movie Fracture:

Anyways it ended up being “kind of” a casting video. I just gave up and put together a bunch of the clips and sent it in anyways.  Mr. LBB says that it’s an accurate depiction of what I would be like on camera so I guess that’s good.  Wait….this is me in real life?!  Can I get a redo?!

My favorite part is when Boo says her painting looks like a “Catfish”….. and when I yell in exasperation at Mr. LBB for interrupting me.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it. At least maybe it will show you more of my “in person” personality…..

How to Import VHS Tapes into iMovie

How to import vhs into iMovie via lilblueboo.com

I’ve been helping my friend Daren transfer some of his old acting demo clips from VHS to digital format. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to create a step-by-step tutorial for transferring VHS to iMovie because I know you’ve been asking for a while now.

First of all…..how cute is Daren?!  I loved watching all of these episodes….brought back so many memories: Wonder Years, Hunter, My Sister Sam, Growing Pains. You can click the image below and see the clips on IMDB:

I’m still trying to talk Daren into letting me run his fan club.

Ok, on to the step-by-step:

First of all, it’s pretty easy to import a VHS tape into iMovie for editing….but it involves a few steps because the VHS has to be converted into a digital format first.  I do this using my Sony Digital 8 Handycam. I record the VHS tape onto the Handycam and then import recorded footage into iMovie.  I’ve got two tips to getting this done:

Ok now to get started! To convert VHS to digital format using a handycam you’ll need the following which you can probably find from a neighbor or friend:

Digital 8 Handycam (DVC)
Audio Video TV Out AV Cable
Fire Wire Cable
Fire Wire Cable Adapters (if needed)

The first step is connecting the Handycam to a VCR.  This is done with a simple Audio Video TV Out AV Cable….you probably already have one sitting around somewhere. It has the 3 colored plugs on one side and an earphone like plug on the other side.

Here’s a closeup of where to plug each side of the AV cable into:

Next, insert a blank tape into the Handycam (DVC)….or one that you don’t mind recording over.  Turn the DVC on to VCR mode:

Random Acts of Kindness (A Digital Short)

Boo's Random Acts of Kindness: Crafting it Forward via lilblueboo.com #raokdiy @michaelsstores

Boo was out of school today so we spent the morning making some little boxes for Boo to give away to random people she met on the street.  She hand wrote each box with a little note, stitched them, and filled them with little gifts to brighten people’s day. She even filled them with dollars from her wallet. Crafting it forward…..and we can make a ton of them using the 99 cent paper mache boxes from Michaels.

Boo wanted to leave them in the middle of the sidewalk but everyone just kept walking over her little boxes without noticing them…..so she started to give them out to random people she met. Sometimes it was because they said a kind word to her and other times it was just someone who ended up standing next to her at a cross walk.  My favorite part was the hummingbird that followed her around….you’ll see it.  I just get teary watching her in this short…Mr. LBB did too….I’m warning you ahead of time:

P.S. Boo dressed herself.  Leggings by Paperlili and top by Matilda Jane.

Though He May Be Little (A Digital Short)

Smallest dog in the world: Though he May be little video (Diesel the yorkie) via lilblueboo.com

Diesel’s our 2 pound yorkie. He’s turning 12 this year. I think he’s a little superhero….sneaking out at night when we are asleep and saving small animals…..because he’s a vegetarian.  We call him:

“protector of all things good”

He’s kind of grumpy, he hoards toys under our bed, he steals pens and markers, he snaps at most women, he’s lost most of his teeth, he bites the ankles of anyone who comes to the front door……but he’s also a loyal friend who never left my side when I was going through chemotherapy last year. He loves cucumbers and Q-tips. He’s high maintenance and dainty.  We joke that he’s the most expensive dog per pound…..in vet bills.  He once spent a week in an incubator after eating a poisonous mushroom……and later spent a few days in observation after falling down a step (just one stair step).

I’d been collecting clips over the past year and I recently added a song that I thought was perfect. Hearing the song on the Grammy’s last night reminded me to share it with you!

Here’s Diesel’s Lil Blue Boo digital short debut:

Boo’s Christmas Highlight Reel

I can’t believe Christmas has already come and gone! It flew by!

We spent a few days at my in-laws house here in town starting last Sunday so everyone would be together at the same time:

I wonder what Boo is whispering to my niece “Coco” in this photo:

Love this photo of my nephew Jordan:

The adults played the annual Christmas stocking game where you have to guess who bought your stocking stuffers:

I made outfits for all the wee ones. We actually got them all in one photo looking at the camera!

All the cousins (minus 2 who are in Seattle) for one photo:

My mom is here for a few weeks and Boo is always on cloud 9. She is so patient and will play Barbies and “library” with Boo for hours:

Boo was so excited that her two cousins Duncan and Cameron were staying at our house for Christmas. We played Xbox sports at night:

The day before Christmas Boo got her nails done:

And she helped me make cupcakes for Jesus’ birthday:

Michaels Dream Tree Challenge – The Finished Tree

A few weeks ago Michaels asked me to be a part of their Holiday Dream Tree Challenge…..of course I jumped at the chance because I love Michaels and I love a challenge!   I finished up my Dream Christmas Tree for Michaels Dream Tree Challenge…..and made a little HD “process” movie to accompany it!  Here’s a peek at the ornaments I made that you’ll see in the movie:

(Update: I had a few questions on equipment and software I use to film and edit HD videos…..click here for my list and FAQ!)

Permission to Be Messy (Time Lapse)

I’m taking a week off from The Lil Journal Project….so I can catch up and so any newcomers can catch up as well.  I made this fun time lapse video of some art journal pages to show my process. Notice I don’t put a lot of thought into the pages….I just do it….making a mess as I go.  I love the song too: Lights by Ellie Goulding.

That was awesome, I don’t know why, but it was awesome.

I made this little movie today for Levi’s over on Babble.com. 1 pair of jeans….and 13 outfits….all using stuff I’ve had sitting in the back of my closet. This wasn’t the easiest thing to do….considering I consider myself the most awkward, uncoordinated 5’11” amazon woman on earth…..

(Note: Make sure to view the Macy’s/Levi’s invite here! I’ll be in San Francisco hosting the September 27th event and would love to meet you!)

A few people asked where I got some of the items…..really? You’re kidding right? Hell has frozen over…..maybe I’ll start a fashion blog. (with all 23.5 fashion items I own)

:: The jeans are Levi’s denim leggings…purchased from Macy’s. They are sold in the store….all they say is “Super Stretch” on the tag.

:: The metallic heels? $17.99 from Payless. Holla.

:: The suede buckle boots were the Buckie Boot from Steve Madden last year. But I found some other awesome boots by Steve Madden on Amazon.

:: No idea where I purchased the off-white crocheted wrap. It’s seriously so old. It’s just a wrap with a piece of yarn holding one side shut……so it’s an easy DIY if you can find any crocheted wrap.

:: The black sweatshirt at the end is Lululemon.

:: The boots in the last outfit were black ankle Uggs.

:: The tops? A mixture of Forever 21 and Old Navy. I only spend money on: boots, jeans, Lululemon. If it falls into any other category….I’m cheap and miserly.

I have no idea what happened to my old motorcycle boots. I must have lost them in a move at some point. So, I ordered this pair as my new winter boots off Amazon…yeah!

Lisbeth Salander eat your heart out.

Oh, and for my video, I thought about doing something like the PSY video below…but you just can’t mess with brilliance. Watching this video makes me so freakin’ happy.  Even today in church, when I should have been listening, I was daydreaming about horses, waddling side-to-side dances, neon suits and singing in my head: “heeeyyyyyy…….sexxxxxy laddddy.” Although I did hear Boo speak up when the children were asked what they could do with a silver dollar: use it to make more money. Yeah….Gangnam style….she watches the stock market with Daddy every morning. Oh, did you see the Saturday Night Live skit last night?  It’s like they read my mind:

“that was awesome, I don’t know why, but it was awesome.”
