I can’t believe this is my fourth year making a dream tree for Michaels! I’ve loved the past few years of coming up with new ideas each year. The first year I went with a rustic theme and in year two I picked a floral theme. Last year I went all out with a Scandinavian theme. And then this year might be my favorite:
Wild meets A Walk in the Woods?
Over the past year our lives have become more and more centered around living outside and it only seemed natural to go with an outdoor theme. Once I saw these cute little vintage backpack ornaments at Michaels I knew a vintage camping theme was the direction I wanted to take with this year’s tree:
Most of the ornaments I made from scratch using materials from Michaels and I’ll have tutorials to follow soon on how to make your own. Like these little lanterns, can you guess what they are made from?
Or these Pendleton-inspired wool-covered canteens:
And vintage bedrolls:
I added in a bunch of vintage park service inspired signs:
We live right near the Appalachian Trail (and I love the book A Walk in the Woods) so I had to go with some of those:
I added added in branches and marshmallow skewers for added detail:
The tree at night with all the lights on:
Have you read Wild yet or seen the movie? Yes, I loved that one too….and had to throw in the PCT sign:
The Christmas tree topper…I can never pass up a scenic overlook!
Here are all the links to the ornaments I made for this tree:

I don’t celebrate Christmas, but I love your ornaments. My brother’s family goes camping every year. I think I’ll make some for him as package toppers for Chanukah.

If I celebrated Christmas, I would do this…I love the whole idea Ashley. An outdoor-themed Chanukah might be in order. Choose JOY !!!!! xoxox

What a Great Tree!!! Love It.
As I look through many of the fabulously decorated Michael’s trees this morning, I think wow, it can’t get better than this one…only to find YOU have topped it! What a fantastic theme and how you made so many of the perfect little camping themed ornaments is absolutely genius! I think you incorporated every type of ornament there is to go with your theme and arranged them wonderfully on the tree. Pinning for sure!

Ashley I must admit yours is by far my favorite! Like you I make all the ornaments (love getting exactly what I want) and the process is so therapeutic. Your theme is spot on and just wonderfully done.

I too love your theme. Your ornaments are so clever. You ooze creativity!
I love the sign I see when traveling from Cherokee to Gatlinburg that reads “quiet walkway.” I always whisper it to my husband when I see it.

I love your tree! A friend of mine recently finished hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, and I can’t wait to see him a link to your post. Beautifully done!
This tree is amazing, love your theme -the lanterns and compasses are the sweetest.
