I wanted to do a version of the DIY Art Kit but for a “journal” version so that it could be used for gifts.  My artist friend Stephanie Corfee was so helpful in making the free artwork download for it. She made the large labels and small labels for labeling all the contents! CONTINUE READING

The Gift of Art (DIY Art Box and Free Artwork Download by Stephanie Corfee) via lilblueboo.com #gift #christmas #diy #printable

So I was thinking about what I would have loved to get as a gift as a kid…..and this art box is definitely something I would have been overjoyed about.  Actually, I’m STILL overjoyed when I get art supplies! I have no self control when it comes to browsing the arts and crafts store…..sometimes I get lost in there for hours (as well as the hardware store). So here’s how I assembled these kits and where I purchased everything from. You can always buy the “ready made” art kits at the store….but the custom filled art box will always be 1000% more fun! Oh, and the awesome artwork? Stephanie Corfee created it….just for you…..because she’s awesome like that!

Here’s the front view of one example: CONTINUE READING

Packing Tape Image Transfers

How to make image transfers with packing tape via lilblueboo.com

I love image transfers.  It’s something I’m always using in my journals but there are so many other fun uses for them.  All you need to make a transfer is a photocopy of an image or words and packing tape.  You can also use printouts from a laser printer or magazine pages. Inkjets will not work because they are not heat based toner.  So take some photos to the copy machine or tear some pages out of your favorite magazine to get started.

Boo and I are making stocking stuffers today. We’ve made these hairbands before but today we added a cute little wood gift tag.

I picked up the printed foldover elastic from Target Trim in L.A. If you can’t find your own prints locally or online you can call them and they will ship you an order. 2 yards makes about 8 hair bands.

A Citra Solv Transfer onto Fabric (A Tutorial)

Did you know that you can do a Citra Solv transfer onto fabric? And it won’t wash out? Citra Solv is a citrus solvent that is used as a natural, powerful degreaser but it great for art projects! You can find it at natural food stores….I found mine at Clark’s.

I used an old Johnny Cash drawing from one of my art journals and did a transfer onto  baseball raglan tee for Boo:

First I took some sprayed a light adhesive layer onto a piece of heavy cardboard (don’t use corrugated cardboard or you’ll have lines in your transfer) to use as an insert into my shirt:
